Why we built this site
Every outdoor photographer knows the feeling: you hiked an hour to the ridge, set up the tripod, and the sun came up behind a mountain you never checked. Outdoor Photo Timing exists to remove that guesswork. We wanted a set of tools that answers the questions photographers actually ask — “When exactly is golden hour here?” “Will the ridge block my sunrise?” “Which evening this week has a dark sky for the Milky Way?” — without forcing you to install an app, create an account, or hand over your location data.
How the tools work工具如何工作
All calculations run locally in your browser using the standard NOAA solar position model. There is no backend server and no external API: your latitude, longitude and saved favorites never leave your device. We chose this design for three reasons: it is private, it is fast, and it works even with a weak signal on a mountain — which is exactly where you need it most.
What we believe
- Light timing is for everyone. Pro apps charge subscriptions for what is simple astronomy. We keep the core tools free and unlimited.
- Privacy by architecture. If we do not collect data, there is nothing to misuse. That is why these tools run on your device.
- Numbers are a starting point, not a promise. Weather, haze and mountains change the light. Use our times to plan, then trust your eyes on location.
